Dispelling a common misconception

I have been blogging weekly since September 2013. I have learned, its hard work, I cannot imagine doing this daily. I have learned that I give a lot of myself away each week as I express feelings, moods, attitudes, excitement and fears; I have learned more about what you think than anything else. Several of you are uncomfortable when I bring up religion. Most of you are cheering me along.  Assistive devices such as wheelchairs, scooters, canes, crutches, and walkers  are used in a broader sense than you might think Keep It Clean, KIC, is a product not limited to the elderly or disabled. This is a misconception I want to  address.

“Because the U.S. population is aging, the use of assistive devices by people with mobility impairments is of increasing importance. The use of mobility devices has grown in recent years, with the populations using wheelchairs and walkers doubling from 1980 to 1990. Crutch and cane use also increased by 14 percent and 53 percent, respectively, over this period, far exceeding what could be attributed to the aging of the population “ Author: The University of California – Disability Statistics Center. Published: Apr 22, 2013 (Revised: Apr 24, 2013.  http://www.disabledworld.com/disability/statistics/mobility-stats.php

“Around 20 percent of injuries to the spinal cord caused by trampoline use are due to jumpers bumping into each other, trying to do stunts, falling off the trampoline or falling onto the frame or springs of the trampoline, reports BrainandSpinalCord.org.  In calendar year 2006, reports the Consumer Product Safety Review, trampolines caused an estimated 109,522 injuries”. http://www.liveforstrong.com/article/347980-statistics-on-trampoline-injuries/

“The National Trauma Data Bank-National Sample Program (NTDB-NSP) from 2003 through 2005 was used to identify injury distribution by body region and to examine the frequency and type of lower-extremity injuries, hospital charges, and discharge disposition for motorcyclists who sustained lower-extremity injuries. Results: The number of motorcycle crashes has increased in the period from 1997 to 2006. There is an estimated 61 percent increase in the number of motorcyclists in traffic crashes in 2006 compared to 1997”  .http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/810982.PDF

As you can see by this small sampling of lower extremity injuries there is a wide spread need for mobility assistant equipment. I will share statists weekly, the month of January, about other causes for this need. KIC supplies the sanitary covers for theses devices. Our goal is to help protect your space from contaminates.. While it is our hope you, your family and friends stay injury free. If this equipment ever becomes necessary in your life, or that of someone you care about, let us offer you additional peace of mind.

We wish you a Happy and safe New Year

Smiles and Hugs
